Last Week of School Before Christmas Vaca!!!!

Only one more week left and I have a feeling it is going to fly by!!  Lots of activities going on.  Tonight the 5&6 and JH teams play at Gage.  Not all of the kids are suiting up and playing though, because Gage has to use younger players to field their teams.  So we are treating this sort of like a Junior Varsity game for the 5&6 and JH.
Basically in all three of my classes, we are going over our study guides and reviewing for the 9 weeks tests and semester tests.  Check the list below to see when your test is scheduled.

6th Reading, 8th Lang. Arts, and 7th English

Wed= Take the 9 wks test and grade it.  Also go over list of who all has to take Sem.Test
Thurs= Review for Sem. Test
Fri= Take Sem. Test and grade it.

First Winter Snow!!!

What a beautiful winter snow we got last night!!  I was curled up in front of my warm, blazing fire, sipping hot chocolate while reading "The Night Before Christmas" to my little girl.  It just doesn't get any better than that.  A very relaxing way to spend the evening.
Today our HS basketball teams play at the 5 County Conference Tournament at Hammon.  The girls play at 4:30 and play Cheyenne-Reydon, while the boys play right after that and play Hammon.
The 5th grade went to StarBase at Sayre today.
Only 19 days left till Christmas!!!!!!!  Get your shopping done and stay on the "nice" list.

All autobiography or biography book reports are due for Mrs. Gore Monday, Dec. 12th.  That is the LAST day to give an oral report.  They must give me two book reports.  It is 3 zeroes for each book report if they choose to blow it off.

Thursday or Friday??!!

Hello basketball fans!! Finally the season has started, and it started with a big win for all four teams (JH boys and girls and 5th and 6th grade boys and girls) on Tuesday.   We've begun the season great!! The JH boys and girls play here today against Sentinel. We have a short week this week because of a Professional Day for the teachers tomorrow, so today could be considered a Friday! Thank goodness for daylight savings time coming up on Sunday because I need a few extra zzz's. The FCCLA banquet is on Saturday.  Older high school kids have been putting up decorations in the cafeteria.  They look pretty cool.  I can't wait till I'm old enough to be a part of that.   Enjoy tomorrow off if you're a kid--  sorry if you're a teacher.  But at least your day will be kid-less and more relaxed than normal.  Have a great weekend!!

Can't Believe It's Over

Well I can't hardly believe it's over!!  I think this phrase applies to lots of things in my life--the Centennial, the 5K, the 1st 9wks, the hot weather, softball, and baseball.  A quick note on each:  The Centennial was GREAT.  The Chamber did an awesome job putting all of that together.  The 5k had a super turn-out and was a success, I think.  It was a lot of work and I am glad it's over!!  (LOL)  The 1st 9wks has flown by.  Some kids did not get their book reports done and are taking zeros as a result.  I think when they see their final grade, they will regret that choice.  So very glad it has cooled off and we received some rain.  I love FALL!!!! And finally, again, congrats to both our softball and baseball teams--Class B State Runner's Up.  Super Job!!  They have set the bar high for basketball!!  All of these things were good, but are over.  So I'm putting them behind me, and I'm moving on.  So ready and excited for FALL BREAK!!

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Busy, Busy, Busy!!!!

Man!!!  What a fast week!!  So much is going on getting ready for the Centennial that I can barely catch my breathe!!  Lots of fun activities, so check them out on Saturday.
Monday, Oct. 17th is the last day for book reports for all 3 classes.  They must give me two oral book reports and take the AR test for each.  BR grade goes down twice, so it's 3 zeros per book report if the student doesn't get it done!  Journals, DOL's, and WOS's are due Monday also for the different classes.  Check with your child and see if those assignments pertain to them.
Today was a catch up day with the 7th and 6th grade.  The 8th grade had an assignment over "Barbara Frietchie" p.166=literature questions due tomorrow.

State Runner's Up in Both!!!!

A huge congratulations to our softball and baseball teams.  Both ended up making it to the finals of their respective state tournaments and were State Runner's Up.  We are very proud of both teams' efforts and appreciate all of the hard work they each put forth this season.

 Leedey is proud of you!!!

This week is all about the Centennial.  Our great lil' town is turning 100 years old and we have a huge celebration this Friday here at school.  Did someone mention ice cream??!!!  Ask Mrs. Smith for more details.  The Chamber has worked very hard to plan lots of interesting activities for the town on Saturday, October 15th during this stellar event.  Come check out the parade, free BBQ, car show, beard contest, or bid on your favorite fireman for labor purposes.  It all sounds FUN!!!  And it is still not to late to register online for the 5k run/walk or the 1 mile fun run/walk.  Go to www.leedey5krun.com for more info.
Book Fair is going on all this week.  Check it out--way cool stuff!!

Three Day Week!

Get Ready For State! Everybody seems to be in a good mood this week, but why not be when we only have a three-day week! We'll send the HS girls off on Wednesday and spread our team spirit at STATE! The end of the first nine weeks will be here in no-time so make sure to GET THOSE BOOK REPORTS DONE! One thing that is always on everyone's minds is how close we are getting the 100 year celebration. 205 people have registered for the 5k run/walk and the 1 mile fun run/walk. October is finally here and everyone is excited for the Halloween dance and the little kids are just as eager to get those sparkly costumes on and get as much candy as they can. I can't believe Halloween is almost here! I cant wait to hand out candy to  little kids who don't even care if their costume is too itchy or their shoes hurt their feet, I mean after all they are there for the candy!
Only thirty % chance of rain on Wednesday night, but since we are so far behind on rain we will be happy with any chance. The cool weather is about to arrive, so get ready to get those coats out (FINALLY!). Girls get your whacky costumes out and get ready to cheer, cheer, cheer for our HS girls! Until then have a fantastic rest of the week! :)

Just Waiting for Friday...

The anticipation for the weekend to come is almost too much to bear! Congrats to the Highschool girls for the win against Waynoka. Regionals are today and we are hoping for another win.  We wish you and the boys tomorrow the best!
It's almost time to celebrate 100 proud years of Leedey. Please remember to sign up for Leedey 5k run/walk or the 1 mile fun run/walk.  There are only 23 precious goody bags left, so hurry and sign up so you can get all of the great stuff! To sign up you must pay $25 for either the 5k and 1mile.  Go to the website www.leedey5krun.com
Those book reports must be done or your grade will be not-so-good! October 13th is the last and final day to give oral book reports for Mrs. Gore.
The bookclub meeting went fantastic for the known book fanatics. We all need to hurry to check out those Sequoyah books and hopefully finish by the next book club meeting.
The weather is nice, but STILL 0% PERCENT CHANCE OF RAIN! At least its nice and sunny outside and the dark clouds aren't making a mockery of our pleading down below!  :)
Its almost October and the cold weather will soon be within our grasp (slow, but soon). I hope that the weather will continue to stay this nice for the upcoming softball and baseball events. My best to all out there who can't wait for Friday to come!! Thats your update, from the classroom!

Last Day to Post!!! Hello Summer!!

Even though today is not the official last day for everyone, it is going to be my last official post for the school year.  I will be really busy the next two days with grading, doing inventory, and all of the other mundane paperwork "stuff" that teachers have to do so we can check out for the summer.  What a fast and furious school year it has been.  It seems like just yesterday that I first learned how to operate this blog!!  I'm ready for summer, but it is hard to believe another year of my life and career is "down in the books" so to say.  I hope everyone has a great summer.  I know I will!!  I plan to go to: lots of ballgames, our big farm pond, the lake, the waterpark, some 5k & 10k races, and just hang with my family.  NO STRESS!!!!  Whatever your plans are, make the most of each day.  You just never know what is around the corner.

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!!!!!

I am so glad that I can say I was part of the 11th Annual Okc Memorial Marathon, especially since it will go down as undoubtley the WORST weather ever!!!  I had four other ladies running with me in the marathon relay.  We were called the "Soleful Sista's."  It was fun--parts of it I did not like--but definitely an experience.  We ran a good time, had a GREAT time hanging out and visiting with each other, and truly remebered the reason why we run.  While eating pasta Friday night at the pasta party that overlooks the Field of Empty Chairs and the Reflecting Pool, I was instantly taken back to that day on April 19, 1995.  I remembered how emotional I got over the next few days hearing all of the tragic news.  I cried and cried and cried the following Sunday afternoon.....just couldn't stop.  I again got very emotional yesterday at the finish line, this time though for a different reason--a reason of joy and pride. Watching marathoners cross the finish line and seeing the emotion and fatigue on their faces and bodies, really affected me.  I was amazed and in awe, to say the least.   How incredible the feeling of finishing 26.2 miles must feel physically and mentally.  I challenge anyone reading this blog to dust off your "kicks" and start training for next year's numerous different races at the Memorial Marathon. They welcome walkers.  "We come here to remember those who were killed, those who survived, and those changed forever."  That is why we run.

Congrats to softball girls--WIN STATE!!  We sent them off just a little bit ago.  Very tough loss for the baseball boys over the weekend.  Be proud though--you had a good season.  Congrats to Corianne Fairchild for winning Miss LHS Sunday.
No school tomorrow so people can go to State Softball games.  No school Friday--one of our Free Fab Fridays.  There is only 3 weeks of school left and they will be the craziest, most jam-packed filled 3 weeks of the entire year.
Be Fabulous----Get Motivated to do Something, Anything Positive.

Regional Thursday

Good Luck to both baseball and softball in the Regional Tournaments starting today.  The boys play at Arnett.  The girls play here.  Miss LHS is Sunday.  Good luck to all girls participating in that.  The Pre-K have a field trip today to the Washita Wildlife Refuge.  Looks like the weather should be pleasant for that.  Today the 8th graders are testing with Mr. McClendon, so I did not have them this morning.  The 7th grade took a pop quiz over The House of Dies Drear chapters 1-10.  They also have a Dies Drear worksheet that is due tomorrow.  Spelling and Vocab Less. #30 are due tomorrow as well.  By Monday they have to have read through chapter 15 in Dies Drear.
Enjoy the day---You never know what the future holds.

Wednesday--Give Blood, Give the Gift of Life!!

Today is the JCC blood drive from 1-6 in the community building (I think.)  I need to try and work that into my day.  I'm O positive, so I really need to give as often as I can.  That's the universal donor blood type.  The hospitals like to give O positive to babies, or so I've been told.
Nice weather--we soooo need the rain!!  It wasn't bad running in it this am.  I only had to run 2 miles.  Just cold from being wet afterwards.
The 8th graders had their party celebrating all tests over with.  The 7th grade finished the movie we've been watching.  Tomorrow both groups will either have a pop quiz over their classroom novels or they will do some worksheets over those books.  Have a fabulous day and let the rain wash away all of your blues.  :-)

Back to School--Typical Tuesday

Not much to report today.  Hs baseball game here today with Elk City and hs softball here vs. Woodward.  Both classes watched the movie, "Believe in Me."  8th graders party is tomorrow.  JCC Blood Drive is tomorrow from 1:00-6:00.  Both classes need to be prepared for a pop quiz over their class set novels that we are reading.  7th graders are also doing Spelling and Vocab this week Less.#30.  Have a great day!!!

Thank Goodness Thursday

First let me begin by wishing everyone a safe and Happy Easter!!  Enjoy your four day weekend!  I hope more "springy" type weather will appear, or Grace E. Lou and I will freeze in our Easter dresses on Sunday.  Not much to announce other than be sure to check out the marquee downtown.  It says something about Mrs. S. Kauk beating Evin in freethrows??  Hmmm.  Interesting.  The 7th grade had their party this morning and the 8th grade continued watching the movie.  Well, that's all I know.  Gotta get to hopping along.....  ;-)  C ya next week!!!

Wintry Wednesday??

Brrr!!  A little chilly this morning--but the warm weather is supposed to be coming.  Met with both 7th and 8th grade today.  In the 7th grade English class we planned our party for tomorrow.  Check with your child to see what they signed up to bring.  Then we read  The House of Dies Drear.  They must have read through chapter ten by Tuesday when we come back from Easter Break.  In the 8th grade Language Arts class we started watching the movie Believe in Me.  It's awesome!!  It's based on the life of legendary Oklahoma girls' basketball coach Jim Keith.  I've read the book, Brief Garland--Basketballs, Ponytails, and Nothing but Net, but I had not seen the movie.  I donated a signed copy of the book to the Leedey library some years ago, for those interested in checking it out.  A great read for jh girls especially.   Mrs. Goldston had the movie and had started watching it with the 8th graders.  So I said of course we could continue it!!  Coach Keith is still alive and he is a great man, as well as a great coach.  It is humbling to watch the movie and see just how much the sport of girls' basketball (and girls' athletics in general) has evolved since 1964.  Coach Keith, along with Bertha Frank Teague, was truly a pioneer in the sport and paved the way for me, (and so many others like me,) not only as a player, but also as a female coach.  My hat off to you Coach Keith with much respect.  You deserve it!!!
Have a FABULOUS day!!!  And find someone you know that has a made a difference in your life and tell them "thanks" today.  Their reaction will warm your heart.  :-)

Testing Tuesday!!

More tests!!!  But we are about at the half-way point.  And at least today we all have Internet!!  I couldn't blog yesterday because my Internet was down.  Glad that it's fixed now. The 7th graders took their Reading test today.  Yesterday I had them for four hours and we reviewed and took practice tests.  Boy, were they sick of me!!!  I hope they did well today, especially the ones that have worked hard and taken the whole testing concept to heart.  The weather was GORGEOUS yesterday at the District softball and baseball games here at Leedey.  Congrats to both girls and boys for being District Champs.  Today I was covering other classes, so I did not meet with the 7th or 8th grade.  Now that testing is over, we will have a small party, and then cover something fun and exciting in both classes!!  Have a fabulous rest of the day!!

8th Graders Rock the Test!!

Most of the 8th graders took the online Reading OCCT test today and did great!!  I'm so proud of them!!  I think a couple of the kids will probably score advanced.  That is exciting.  I believe, just based on raw scores, that most of the others will score satisfactory, which means they pass.  All of our hard work paid off!!  Did not meet with 7th grade until Enhancement.  We took a practice test.  They did okay on it.  They're test is next Tuesday. I hope they can do as well as the 8th grade did.  :)
Everyone enjoy your weekend.  The weather is supposed to be beautiful!!  Be FABULOUS!!

Wild Testing Wednesday!!

Lots of testing going on today!!  I did not meet with the 7th graders as they were testing.  I did meet with the 8th graders for 3 periods throughout the day.  We took a bunch more of the practice tests.  We are so ready!!!  I'm hopeful they will do well!!  Tomorrow is the BIG day. :-)
Congrats to the 8th & 9th grade Academic Bowlers for making it to State.  They compete this Saturday at OU.  Good Luck Gentry and Mason.  And MaKayla is the best scorekeeper ever!!!
No games tonight since it's Wednesday night.  Enjoy the beautiful day.  We are having some incredible weather!!!

Testing Begins Today--HOORAY!!!!

Testing started today with the 7th and 8th graders, as well as some other classes.  What a beautiful day to start on--gorgeous weather!!  Neither class met with me today since both groups were taking their math test.  I will have the 8th graders, though, for Enhancement.  They are taking their online practice Reading test in the computer lab at that time.  Jh baseball plays Arnett today, and the hs and jh softballers play Sentinel.  I think both games are here.  Get out, support the teams, and enjoy the weather!!  Peace Out!!

Beautiful Monday!!

What glorious weather today is!!  I do wish it would rain though, because we need the moisture.  I gotta blow my own horn two different ways today for celebrations over the weekend.  First, Gabe placed 3rd in the long jump and softball throw Saturday in Woodward at the Special Olympics.  He qualified for state, which is in Stillwater sometime in May.  Way to go GABE!!!!  Next, I ran my first 10k Sunday at the Redbud Classic.  I was a little short of my goal, but still ran a good time for it being so HOT, and considering it was only my second time ever to run that distance.  My time was 64:13, which is avg. pace of 10:34 mile.  My goal was 10 min. miles.  Oh well, I've got some more work to do!!!!  I don't really like running and it hurts to do it, so I'm really proud of myself.  I'm preparing for the Memorial Marathon Relay.  My team is "Soleful Sistas."  My leg for that is 7.6 miles!!!!  Yikes!!
In both classes all this week, we are taking practice tests, some online and some on paper.  The 8th grade reading test is this Thursday.  The 7th reading test is next Tues.  More work to do in a different way!!
A special congrats to the new Leedey Tracksters.  I hear these girls are doing well!!  As a fellow runner and former coach of this sport, keep running hard!  And good luck.  I think those participating are Macy, Sydney, Jenna, and Rachel??  I hope I didn't leave someone out.
Be fabulous today and match the weather!!!!

Warmer But Windy!

At least it is warmer, but the windy weather is still frustrating!!  That is unless you're in the wind turbin biz, then maybe you're smiling today.  I was pulling for Butler last night in the men's tournament.  Hate that they are the bridesmaid again for the second year in a row.  It was a good tourney.  Mr. Mac let us know what you are going to spend your $$ on!!  :)  Mostly just softball and baseball games going on today.  Still preparing for the state mandated tests.  Lunch was great today here at school!!  Yummo!  Loved the dessert!

What is Up With the Weather?!?!?

Unbelievable is about the only word that I can utter about this crazy weather going on this spring!!  Yesterday kids are playing in the sprinklers, people are mowing their lawns, and I'm looking for the air conditioner button on my thermostat!!  Today--I'm an eskimo in Alaska!  Where's my parka??  Ugh!!  And does anyone have a kite or parachute I can borrow.  Perfect weather for those activities today!!  Scheesh!  Ok, enough complaining.  Here's what's on the agenda today:  BPA kids at the Capital; JHSB at Elk City @4:30; JHBA at Shattuck Tourn. vs Arnett @ 5:15 and Moorland @ 6:30.  Only 6 more class periods after today before the 8th grade take their reading test.  The 7th grade have 9 more class periods.  Get focused!!  The time is almost here.

Terrific Tuesday

Well, according to Mr. McClendon he is still in the lead for the Final Four Tourney pretend pool.  Of course, this surprises no one since he is the one doing all of the figuring and calculating!!  The tourney isn't over yet so time will only tell......  Lots of activities today:  HS baseball here with Cheyenne; JH softball here with Arnett; and HS softball at Sentinel, just to name a few.  Today in both classes we just graded the assignments from yesterday and used today as a catch-up for some that had late work out and others that needed to read their library books.  I've got to comment on the weather before I close my blog.  I WANT TO WEAR SHORTS AGAIN!!!  Mr. Winter--enough already!  Have a fabulous day.  :--)

This week is our first official first Friday off.  Woo Hoo!!!  I was sick last Friday.  And I can only say
I"M SICK OF BEING SICK!!  I'm ready to be healthy and feel good again!!  I hate lying around my house.  I'm a mover and a shaker and I like to go, go, go!!  It's also affecting my running!!  I'm about to spaz out about that, too!!  One thing about not feeling good the last two weeks, it makes me more appreciative of the good health that I normally have.  I'm thankful for my healthy body.

Terrific Tuesday Totally Tubular

Here it is, Tuesday, and I can't wait till Friday!!  C'mon week--roll by quick!  I finally got the low down on who all made the OKC show sale.  Congrats to Sheldon, Macee, and Holly.  There are a ton of ballgames today:  HS ba here vs. Fargo; JH sb @ W'ford; HS sb @ Arapaho Fest; and 3&4 bb @ Arnett.  Whew!!  Here is a chewey morsel of school "gossip."  It seems there is a little bit of a scuttle-butt about Mr. Mclendon's two brackets and the way he is scoring the Final Four pretend pool.  Supposedly, no one is accusing him of any wrong doing--yet......
Let it be known that no comments will be made on this blog about the validity of his brackets or his scoring procedure, until further research is done to support those "alleged" allegations.

Wednesday Like a Friday

No School Tomorrow!!!  I have a song and dance that goes along with this and would perform it on request.......if I felt better.  :-)  Headed to the doctor after school today to get shots in an effort to just feel better!!  I HATE feeling sick and crappy!  I'm unfortunately going to miss the town clean-up today after school.  I feel bad about that.  :(  Okc stock show is still going on.  I've heard some of our kids have done really well.  I will try to have a list next week.  The 7th grade took Spelling test #26, graded spelling wb, and graded vocab. wb. today.  We will grade BA assignment on Monday.  The 8th grade were given "Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry" novels and assigned to read Chapt. 1 by Monday.  This is the only book we will read and do for creative book reports this last 9wks period.

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day.  So here is some fun trivia for all the green leprechauns out there.
  • St. Patrick's Day is an Irish holiday celebrated all around the globe to honor the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick.
  • Saint Patrick is traditionally thought to have lived between 432-461 A.D.
  • Saint Patrick is credited with converting the nobles; Saint Patrick is also credited with bringing written word to Ireland through the promotion of the study of the Bible.
  • It is believed that Saint Patrick died on March 17 in the year 461 AD, which explains why we celebrate on that date in honor of this holy man.
  • The harp is the symbol of Ireland. The color green is also commonly associated with Ireland, also known as “the Emerald Isle.”
  • 34 million Americans have Irish ancestry.
  • One traditional icon of the day is the shamrock. This stems from an Irish tale that tells how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Trinity. He used it in his sermons to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate elements of the same entity.
AND SO, WITH THESE THOUGHTS IN MIND, MAY THE LUCK OF THE IRISH BE WITH YE TODAY AND EVERYDAY!!!!

Starting Off the Short Week!!

Only 3 days of school this week. I just gotta say--Thank Goodness for Spring Break days!!  Good luck to the 7&8 academic team as they go to a triad today at Vici at noon.  Junior high baseball at Shattuck today at 4:30 and at Vici tomorrow at 4:30.  Softball season finally opens up for jh and hs tomorrow night at Shattuck at 4:30.  Don't forget the town clean-up Wednesday after school at the Bison Quick Stop at 3:30.
The 8th grade started watching a movie today.  However, unbeknownst to me, it is one that Mrs. Kauk  covers with her students as sophomores, so we will not continue with it.  The 8th grade will not like this, but we will probably start in tomorrow with info they need to know for the reading test in April.  We have less than four weeks to prepare for that.  I was willing to make an exception to the tight timetable for the great movie, but since we are not able to watch it now, it's back to the grindstone!!

Thank Goodness It's Friday!!

I'm so glad it's Friday, although it does seem like the week has flown by!  I'm a little under the weather today--headcold crud, sore throat, ears popping.  I'm probably getting sick, and I have big weekend plans!!  That's so typical of my luck!  The highschool baseball boys are still in the Dover Festival and are still in search for a "W."  Highschool softball opens up with Mooreland today here at 4:30.  Today in class, the 8th graders had a party to celebrate being done with the Writing Test.  The 7th graders took their Spelling Test #25, along with grading their Spelling Wb and Vocab. Wb.#25.  I hope everyone has a super fantastic and safe weekend.  Be FABULOUS in all you do and to whomever you meet!!  (That's become my new little reflection statement. :-)  C Ya!!

Approaching the End of the Week

The highschool baseball boys go to the Dover Festival today.  Good luck to them.  The boater safety course finished up last night.  I've heard lots of kids make positive comments about that and all the things they learned from that program.  The OKC stock show starts tomorrow and runs through all of next week.  Today during first hour I had a BIG talk with the 7th grade concerning AR tests.  Hopefully some "life lessons" were learned.  Spelling and Vocab Less. #25 are still due for them tomorrow.  The 8th grade got to have a free day as we planned for a party tomorrow.  We are celebrating that the Writing Test is over.  Yay!!!!  Since next week is only a 3 day week, we are watching a movie.  The following week, however, it's back to work!!  One test down--reading test to go!!  I hope everyone has a great day and makes GOOD CHOICES throughout the rest of the week.

Windy Wednesday Go Away!!!

I hate the cold wind!!  What happened to the 70 degree weather I was loving??  I wish it would come back.  This weather is affecting my mood and my running!  The Five County Conference All-Star Banquet was last night in Elk City.  8th Graders took the Writing Test today.  Boater Safety Course continues tonight at 3:30-5:45.  The 7th Graders had a 2 day assignment from yesterday.  It is due tomorrow.  Hope everyone gets through "hump day."  Have a good one!!

Getting Geared Up for Testing!!

The 8th Grade state mandated writing test is Wednesday.  We have worked hard, especially this last 9 week period.  I hope everyone will perform well.  I had a great weekend at the small school state basketball tournament.  There was some really good ball being played, and most of the games were fairly close in their scores.   Baseball season officially kicks off today.  There is a boater safety course after school this week for kids that want to drive jet skiis.  Teachers must have their grades posted by noon tomorrow, so report cards can be printed and sent out later this week.  The weather is warming up.  Now if the wind will just die down.

Why Are All of the GS Teachers Wearing Hats???

Today is "Read Across America Day" for the Pre-K thru 5th grade.  Keeping with the spirit of the day, all of the gradeschool teachers are wearing "Cat in the Hat" hats and big red bow ties to honor Dr. Seuss.  Cute and fun!! There is a 5&6 Academic Bowl at Canute today.  Tomorrow is the end of the 3rd 9 week period.

Is It Tuesday?!?!

OMG!!!!  Another sick kidlet at my house has caused me to lose track of the day of the week!!  I am so behind here at school my head is churning!!  Gabe is feeling better though.  Now we can only hope that Mamma doesn't get sick since Daddy got the bug yesterday.  :(  Today is Gabe's 13th birthday!!  Happy Birthday Gabbles!!!  I can remember bringing him home from the Okmulgee hospital--long story that involves me coaching for the state tourn--like it was yesterday.......Ahhh, good times!!
Good luck to all kids that are showing/showed in the Woodward Stock Show this week.  Small school State Basketball Tournament starts Thursday--always exciting and a great opportunity to see old friends.  The 270 Conf. All-Star game was last night.  Congrats to Hailey, Sydney, Taya, Drew, Sheldon, and Evin for making it.  No school on Friday.  Woo Hoo!!  Today was the last day to give me a book report.  Some kiddos did not give me both book reports, which means they will be taking zeros!!  Uh-oh!!

TGIF!!!

Ok, I'm not complaining about the long week because I've only been here 2 days of it!  But I am thankful for Friday because I love the weekends!!  Even though both our highschool boys and girls basketball teams got beat out, there are still games being played at Woodward for all the other teams still alive in our Area I.  Things still seem really busy too as we are fast approaching test dates.  We've all gotta stay focused and keep our hard hats on--keep plugging away and working!!  Hope everyone has a fun and restful weekend!!

*Since many students refused to be quiet while the "Word on the Street" was being announced, the entire class got to write the word, "dismal," along with it's: part of speech; definition; example used in a sentence; and word origin 10 times.  Then we took a pop quiz over the word and took grades on this quiz.  Most students were only able to write all of that information down about 7 or 8 times.  Hopefully, I got the class' attention. Maybe next Monday, they will be quiet and take notes when the "Word on the Street" is announced.
*Spelling Test #23; Spelling Wb #23; and Vocab Wb #23 is all due on Monday.
*We will grade all of Break Away assignments from when I was gone on Monday as well.
*Book Reports are due Tues.

8th Lang. Arts
*Conservation Essays for the contest are due Monday.
*They handed in both sets of worksheets from when I was gone.  We will grade these after the Writing Test.  But we will discuss next week on how to incorporate some of those concepts from the worksheets into the students' writing.
*On Monday we will start writing againg using various prompts and following all 4 steps of the Writing Process.
*Book Reports due Tuesday.
*Writing Test March 9-10.

Hey, It's Good to be Back at School Again!!

Gosh, it's been a whole week since my last blog!  We didn't have school last Friday.  Monday, I was at the Dewey County Stock Show.  Then Grace E. got sick and I've been home with her for the past two days!  It sounds crazy, I know, but I ACTUALLY MISSED SCHOOL!!!  I'm a people person, so when I'm cooped up in the house with a sick little one, I was really wishing I could be at school.  Sshhh!!  Don't let that get out.  People might accuse me of liking my job!!  LOL!

Wednesday--the Middle of a Crazy, Busy Week.

Congrats to all of the kids involved in the stock show last night.  Everyone did a great job.  A special get well shout out to Sheldon Rounds, who broke his ankle last night when his heifer went crazy while he had hold of the halter!!  Take care of yourself, Sheldon.  Also a big congratulations to Gabe for winning Reserve and Grand Champion Wether Goats!!  It helped that Gabe had the only two male goats for this division, but we won't focus on that minor detail.  :)  HS basketball boys play at Arnett at 3:00 for Regionals tomorrow and they play Hardesty.  Girls play Forgan at Arnett at 6:30.  Good luck to all.  We didn't have class today for the 7th or the 8th grade due to the Dewey County Spelling Bee.  Our kids did good.  A boy from Seiling took second while a boy from Taloga took first.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Cupid is in full force here in the halls of Leedey Schools.  The board room looks like a red, white, and pink explosion of flowers, candy, stuffed animals, and sweet nothings.  Hope everyone gets what they are expecting from  their sweethearts!  Congrats to the highschool boys and girls during Districts.  The girls were District Champs and the boys were runner's-up.  Both teams will advance to Regionals this week.  Great news for the 5th & 8th Graders--the State Writing Test has been post-poned until March 9-10.  They were scheduled for next Wed. Feb. 23rd.  I'm sure it's because of the days of school missed due to bad weather that the State Dept. of Ed has re-scheduled the tests.  Whatever the case, I am sooo glad.  I was starting to feel very scrunched for time!!  Dewey Co. Spelling Bee this Wed. at 9:30 a.m. in auditorium.  Five County Speech Contests tomorrow here at Leedey.  Local Leedey livestock show here tomorrow at 5:00.  Gabe gets to show his goats: Pistol Pete and Cowboy.  Yes, we are O-state fans!!  WHEW!!!  And it's just MONDAY!!!

Basketball Playoffs Start Tonight!

Finally the snow is melting a little bit at a time.  The temperatures are supposed to go up, which is good news.  The farmers will appreciate all of the much needed moisture.  The weather is good enough here now that it won't affect Leedey hosting basketball playoffs tonight.  Don't forget to come out and support the Bison and Lady Bison as their quest for the gold ball begins later today.  Congrats to seventh graders Jacee Harrel for winning the local Leedey Spelling Bee yesterday and Emily Carmen for finishing second place.  Other spelling bee winners were: 5th grade=Chassidy Ray, second and Magen Fairchild, first;  6th grade=Riley Fairchild, second and Luke Ward, first;  7th grade=Emily Carmen, second and Jacee Harrel, first;  8th grade=Allison Paulsen, second and Morgan Hahn, first.  All eight of these students will compete in the Dewey County Spelling Bee next Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. here at the Leedey Auditorium.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Digging Out from all the Snow!!

My Goodness we certainly had a lot of snow!!  I guess I should be thankful we didn't have as much as some other towns up north.  We also had another day out of school for this wintery weather.  It's starting to become a weekly trend.  I don't know if it makes me happy or sad.  I guess that all depends on if we have to make the days up or not!  Districts start tomorrow.  Leedey is hosting Shattuck and Arnett.  Our boys play tomorrow night at 8:00 against Shattuck.  Our girls will play the winner between Arnett and Shattuck girls Saturday night at 6:30.  Come out and support both teams.  I wish both boys and girls all of the luck in Leedey as their journey to the "Big House" starts this weekend!!

Hey Old Man Winter--Enough Already!!!

Brrrrrrr!!!  Enough with the cold windy weather!  But more is coming in tonight.  Uugh!!  The HS plays tonight at Seiling.  The GS games got canceled so they could move the HS games up to a 3:30 start time.  We are trying to get the games in before the 5-8 inches of snow starts to fall.  Today in both 7th & 8th grade, we did the class spelling bee.  Congrats to Emily for winning second place and to Jacee for winning first place in the 7th grade; Allison for winning second place and Morgan for winning first place in the 8th grade.  All four of these girls will participate in the Leedey Local Spelling Bee this Thursday during DEAR and enhancement time.

Marvelous Monday Gets the Week Started!!

Tonight there are JH ballgames at Hammon at 6:30.  I believe it is the last JH game of the season.  The 3&4 play in front of them at 4:30.  Good luck to all.  Congrats to the HS girls for winning the 270 Conf. Championship against Ft. Supply girls Saturday night at Arnett.  Our HS boys also won their game on Thursday.  Unfortunately, only the 5&6 boys were able to win at the Reydon Festival on Saturday.  The local Leedey Spelling Bee is scheduled for this Thursday, Feb. 10 during DEAR and Enhancement for the 5th -8th class winners.  The 7th & 8th grade are having their class bees tomorrow because of a music festival on Wednesday and potential bad weather coming in on Tuesday night.  I gave all students a list of 40 some words that I will use for the class bee.
