Finally Friday!!! No School Tomorrow!!

Here it is--Friday and only one hour of school left.  Yeaaaaaa!!!  Christmas Break!!  No school for two whole weeks!!  Sleeping in, going shopping, hanging out with family and friends, eating out, watching "It's A Wonderful Life," playing outside, traveling, going to All-College Tournament---wonderful Christmas Break activities.  The beautiful light snow is a sign that this Christmas will the best ever if you choose to make it that.  All of my students that were supposed to show up for Semester Tests did, and they finished them.  We got them graded, but were unable to average grades.  Hopefully I will have all of that done when we get back, but right now--It's Christmas Break, BABY!!!  Hope everyone has a
VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
See Ya Next Year!!

Only One More Day Left!!

Well, after today there is only one day left before Christmas Break is here!!  Jingle Bells!!  Tonight is the elementary Christmas Program in the auditorium starting at 7:00 pm.  The kiddos have been working very hard to perfect their performances.  I can't wait to see it.  Tomorrow the 3&4 play in front of the HS basketball game against Shattuck.  Gradeschool games start at 4:30.  Today both of my classes started on their semester tests.  They will finish them tomorrow.  Then we will grade them and try to average grades.  The 7th grade finally got to have their blog party today.  Next potential party for both groups will be when the blog has 5,000 hits!!

Wild Wednesday!!

Boy Howdy!!  The kids are starting to sniff at the Christmas Break that is right around the corner, as they are starting to act a little waspy!!  Both classes finished their 9wks tests and we graded them today.  Then we looked at grade averages and absentses and figured out who all is taking Sem. Tests.  The 7th graders finally get to have their blog party tomorrow.  Check to see if your child signed up to bring food.  I've listed what each classes' semester test is going to cover.  Get ready because the tests are challenging.

7th English
* Sem. test will cover everything on the 9wks. test along with 3 or 4 of the reading comprehsion worksheets that we have been doing the last 3 weeks.  It will cover many of the reading skills that we have learned.  It is multiple choice.

8th Lang. Arts
*This test will cover everything that was on the 9wks test as well as:  plot, conflict, resolution, climax, complictions, subplot, and parallel episodes.  The lit. stories that students will test over are "The Wise Old Woman;" "Broken Chain;" "Flowers for Algernon;" "The Landlady;" "The Monkey's Paw;" and "The Open Window."

Test-Taking Tuesday

Not much to report today.  Both the 7th & 8th graders took their 9 wks. test in class today.  Some did not get completely finished and are coming to me during enhancement in order to finish.  We will grade the tests tomorrow and also review for the Sem. Test then.  We are starting the Sem. Test in both classes on Thursday.  These tests are usually long and cumbersome and will take more than one class period to finish.  On Friday, we will finish the Sem. Tests and then grade them.  ALL STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT EXEMPT FROM SEMESTER TESTS MUST SHOW UP TO MY CLASS ON FRIDAY REGARDLESS OF IF THEY FINISHED MY SEMESTER TEST OR NOT.  There seems to be some confusion about this with the 7th graders.  I explained it again today and have hopefully answered all questions in regards to this matter.  Seventh graders, please remember to bring a Sequoyah book to class tomorrow for a bonus 100 grade. Basketball games tonight are at Arnett with 3&4 playing first.  Good luck to all four teams.  Go Big Green!!

Busy Last Week Starts Today!!

There is a lot going on this week--lots of ballgames, Christmas programs, 9 wks. and Sem. Tests--the list just goes on and on!!  In both classes today we listened to book reports and reviewed for the 9 wks test which is tomorrow.  The 7th grade graded their journals and DOL's.  Some people didn't have theirs and so unfortunately, took zeros.  These grades are not droppable.  Some people also did not give their oral book reports.  I would hate to be those kids when their mamma's find out!!  Each book report goes down as 2 grades and then the AR test is one grade.  Multiply that times 2 book reports for me and that is 6 un-droppable zeros!!  Ouch!!

Study hard tonight even thought there are 7th&8th and JH ballgames.  At least the games are here at home!!  See ya tomorrow if I don't see ya tonight at the games!!

Little Bit of Snow Melts Away

How exciting that we had our first snow for the winter!!  It wasn't very much, and it didn't last long, but it made everything look so peaceful, wintery, and serene.  Now of course if you have a job that requires you to work outside (like my husband), then you are probably NOT a fan of snow and winter weather.  However, if you are like me and had nothing else going on last night but to sit by the fire, drink hot cocoa, and finish putting up Christmas decorations, then you fell in love with the beauty and the wonder of our first winter snow.  BEAUTIFUL!!
Sadly both of our HS teams lost their first round games last night in the 5 Co. Tourn.  According to the bracket, the girls will play Thursday at 4:30 and the boys will play right after them at 5:45.  The tournament is being held at Canute.  Good luck mighty bison and PLAY HARD!!!

No JH Games This Week

Because of the HS 5 County Tournament at Canute, there are no jh basketball games this week.  That means that my 7&8 graders ought to have plenty of time to get their books read so they can give me a book report on Monday!!  :)  I realize students have other commitments other than just sports; I really am just joking about "having time in the evening" factor.  But I'm dead serious about book reports being due on Monday.  Please get them done!!  Good luck to both HS teams tonight as the girls play Canute at 7:00 and the boys take on Hammon at 8:15.  Tournament brackets are in the office.  Go Bison!!

WOW!!  How glad am I that we only have two days of school this week and then it's Thanksgiving Break!!  I think everyone is ready.  Breaks are good to re-energize the mind and soul.  Congrats to Gabe and Dalton for winning gold at the Special Olympics in Woodward for bowling.  Gabe got to pick his own doubles partner and he wanted Dalton.  Good job boys!!  Also last week, some of our 4-H kids won at the local Share-the -Fun, and now they get to go on to Fairview and perform their skit.  Hope they do well.  Sr's are selling chances on a Kindle.  Chances are $2 each.  Drawing will be Dec. 17th.  Buy your chances from Randi or Raegan.  Good Job Shout Outs to both JH and HS basketball boys and girls teams for sweeping Canton last Friday night.  They tell me Drew dunked it in the game.  AWESOME!!

Gosh, I hope the cold rainy weather doesn't cause the electricity to go off like it did last Friday!! It's hard to post on the blog when there is no electricity for the computer. By the time it did come back on, I was in the process of heading to Cheyenne for a 3&4 grade ballgame.

Honoring Those Who Served

In honor of Veteran's Day today, Leedey Schools put on an assembly.  Mr. McClendon  was the organizer, and his 8th grade American History class presented various topics concerning  patriotism: the United States Flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, etc.  Mrs. Goldston had two musical groups sing and perform, while Holly sang a solo and did an excellent job, even though her music and microphone did  not cooperate!  Veterans that were in attendance were recognized and honored.  It ended with a moment of silence remebering all of those who have fought and died for our country and all of those currently serving.  All in all, the whole school enjoyed and benefitted from this assembly.  Great job to everyone involved!!  A special shout out to Taylor.  We all hope she is ok and feeling better.  Taylor blacked out and passed out earlier this morning at breakfast.  She gave us all quite a scare.  Get well soon, Taylor!!

Countdown to Friday!

The week is flying by.  Everyone is hooked up in class and lots of after-school activities could be the reasons.  Gentry and Jessie were glad both HS BB teams won last night against Canute.  The boys game was double-overtime!!  What a nail-biter.  Taylor and Jordan get very nervous during the boys game.  Everyone seems happy today with the lunch menu--Pot Pie--a school favy favorite!  There is short 4-H meeting today after school to discuss Share-the-Fun ideas.  Not much else going on during a Wednesday night.  Get some rest and get caught up!

Working Hard to Learn

Both classes today worked hard to learn different PASS skills that will help them pass the reading test in the spring.  The 7th grade focused on Main Idea and Details, while the 8th graders Compared and Contrasted Historical Fiction with Historical Accounts.  Although the 7th grade didn't score very well on the practice test, they did answer a lot of verbal questions and participated well in group discussion.  They need to pay better attention to what the question is actually asking next time.  Tomorrow the 8th grade will get to test their knowledge as we take 3 or 4 practice tests over information and PASS skills learned in this past unit.

7th English
*Discussed Main Idea and Details in B.A. p.23-25.  Took pract. test p. 25 (1-5) for a grade.

It's Time for a Change!

Fall Backwards!!!

Thank goodness the time has finally changed.  I have been waiting to "fall backward" for quite some time now.  I LOVE this time change--hate the one in the spring.  Everyone seemed well rested coming back from the 3-day weekend.  Brandon had a birthday party sleepover during the weekend.  Many of the 7&8 graders served at the FCCLA banquet.  Hollly has finally gotten her pigs, which makes my son happy!!  The 7&8 grade athletes are also excited about their JH Tourn. starting tonite at Cheyenne.  Girls play Sweetwater at 5:00, and the boys also play Sweetwater at 6:00 p.m.  There's an FCA breakfast tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. at the Community Building.  You do not have to be an athlete to attend. The JH academic team practice is on Wednesday.  Lots of activities are going on.  It's important that students utilize class time so they don't have much homework.

Here's Wednesday--Only One Day Left!!

Basketball is officially in full swing as both HS teams defeated Erick-Sweetwater last night.  Elijah thought both games were nail biters.  "I didn't know if the bison were gonna pull it out or not!" Glad they both did.  And here's a nod to the cheerleaders.  They did a super job of getting the crowd involved and helping the bison bring home the victory.  Both classes seem tired today as we try to get over the "hump" of the week.  Maybe tonight they can get some much needed rest.  Best news of all--no school on Friday!!

Trying to Recoup from a Busy & Fun Weekend!

Boy!!  I could tell that my 7th & 8th graders were tired this morning!  They were very "draggy" today.  Must have had too many late nights over the weekend!  I guess it's understandable though, because Saturday was the FCCLA masquerade dance and last night was trick-or-treat.  I know none of my gems were responsible for any of the egg mess at the quickstop!!  I'm sure they just went door to door and trick-or-treated and got candy.  :)  Tonight is the first JH basketball game.  There was a lot of talk about that.  Everyone seems to be excited as they get ready to travel to Fargo for a 6:30 start.  GO LEEDEY BISON!!

We Smell Candy Right Around the Corner!!

Both the 7th & 8th graders are getting excited about Halloween.  Spooks and goblins, tricks and treats, dances and games--all good times when you're a kid.  The 8th graders had a really good time yesterday at the Life Skills Day in Taloga.  Destiny especially liked the ice cream sandwich snack everyone received.  Michael loved the brisket they had for lunch, but wanted more!!  Gentry is bummed she can't attend the dance Sat. because she is in a softball tourney in Okc.  Jessie and Cayla, be sure to check out the video link.  Hope no one is around when you two are watching it.  If so--grab ear plugs!!

We Are Seeing Red Instead of Leedey Green!!

Red, red, red--that is the color of choice today as the Red Ribbon Week starts.  "You & Me Drug Free" is the theme of this statewide event sponsored by our FCCLA group.  Today was wear red day.  Wednesday is wear a cap day; Thursday is wear a sports shirt day; and Friday is camo day.  All students were given red stretchy drug free wristbands to wear each and every day.  The students also signed a "chain strip" pledging to be drug free.  Should be a fun and educational week.  Cordalle can't wait until tomorrow.  He's excited for hat day!
The 8th graders are excited about missing school tomorrow.  They are going on a field trip to Taloga for the "Life Skills Day" sponsored by the Dewey Co. Ext. office.  They need to wear a green Leedey shirt and no opened toed shoes.  The only thing they need to bring is their manners, as lunch and a snack will be provided for them.  It really is a pretty cool program.  The kids will learn a lot.  Allison and Morgan can't wait for tomorrow to get here!

7th & 8th Getting the Week Started Off Right

I love MONDAYS!!  There is nothing better than a Monday for getting back in the groove and starting the whole week off on a powerful, positive note.  That is just what both classes did today, as each group was very productive and hard at it.  Too bad the ole' Pokes couldn't pull it off, and it looks like the Sooners had problems of their own as well.  Yup, it was a tough weekend to be a college football fan in Oklahoma. Good thing basketball is right around the corner!!  :)

Finally--Friday!!

Thank goodness for Fabulous Fridays!!  What a busy week.  And I'm quite sure that the weeks will only get busier with the holidays and basketball season quickly approaching.

In 7th English we wrote in our journal, took our spell. test #8 and graded vocab. wb #8.  In 8th Lang. Arts we handed in our assignments from last 2 days and then just read our library book.  We also listened to oral book reports from Makayla, Gentry, Taylor, and Cayla.

Lots of kids seem to be going to Stillwater today and tomorrow for football Homecoming.  Hope the COWBOYS can pull it out!  The rain is nice and needed.  The kids are tired of the hot Oct. temps and keep asking "When's it gonna cool off?!"  Maybe the rain will bring the change.

The Maze!! The Maze!! The Maze!!

Wow!!  Both the 7th & 8th graders are psyched about the haunted corn maze in Weatherford.  That's all they wanted to talk about today in my class.  The United Methodist Church Youth Group is taking anyone in 7-12 to the maze tonight.  Sounds scary, but good clean fun.  Watch out for Freddie and Jason!!  I hear that Jessie and Mason are a bit scared and might just do laser tag.   (LoL!)  Good Luck!  That's a lot of fun too.  Amidst all of the maze talk, Taylor and Makayla were chatting about the O-State football Homecoming game this weekend.  GO POKES!!  And today was Cadan's birthday, so a big birthday shout out to the boy that all of the 7th grade girls have a crush on according to the 8th grade girls!!  :)

I Miss My 8th Graders!

Rats!!  I didn't get to see my darling 8th graders today!!  They were taking the Explore Test with Mrs. Harrel for most of the morning. This test is some type of precursor to the ACT test students take as sophomores, juniors, and seniors.   I'm sure the 8th grade  missed me as much as I missed them!!  :)  Oh well, tomorrow when I see them in class we will just have to do 2 days worth of assignments.  I bet they're ok with that!!  BTW--check out the thriller dance video link from yesterday.  The 8th graders tell me that's what they will look like next Sat. at the JCC costume dance.  Pretty scary cool!

7th Graders Routine Jumbled Up.

Today in 7th English we were not able to meet in our classroom because of the 8th grade taking the Explore Test.  We unfortunately were not able to follow our normal routines.  We did do a journal, but no DOL.  Mrs. Gore didn't have all of her textbooks, so the students worked on Spelling and Vocabulary assignments (Less. #8) both due Friday.  Grades were posted today and should be mailed to parents soon.  The kids are way excited about that!!  NOT!

FCCLA as a fund raiser sent home some t-shirt order forms.  They look pretty snappy!!  Those are due next Tues.  Jordan says "I think they look cool, but where's the kelley green sweatpants?!?"

Amazing 8th Graders Come Back Refreshed & Eager to Learn!!

The 8th graders are all a buzz about the JCC Masquerade Dance which is Friday, Oct. 29th at the Community Center in Leedey from 8pm till midnight.  There is much discussion about costumes and who to take as your date.  Cayla and Kolt plan to groove on the dance floor all nite long!!  Ethan, unfortunately has to rodeo.  Too bad, lotsa girls will be disappointed without the horse whisperer being there!

7th Grade--Back to the Grindstone After Fall Break!!

7th English Assignments: Spelling Less. #8=Due Fri.;  Vocab. Wb. #8=Due Fri; Wrote in journal and did DOL Wk.8 #1&2.  Book Reports this 2nd 9wks is Autobiography or Biography=due date TBA. Must do 2 oral book reports for me and take AR tests.

New lunch schedule has potential to be awesome according to Macee because the 7th graders get to eat sooner.  Who doesn't like eating early!  The athletes feel like they will have more time for their food to digest and not puke in PE!!!  Only time will tell....

Mrs. Gore's 7th and 8th Grade English Classes Start a Blog!!

Hello!  Welcome to "Gore's Gems"--a blog page all about Mrs. Kris Gore's 7th & 8th English/Language Arts classes and students here at Leedey.  We are very excited (and a little nervous) about starting this blog.  The name of our blog comes from the fact that I think each and every one of my students is a gem that needs to be shined, polished, and treasured.  Our main goal for starting this blog is to foster better communication between teacher, students, and parents, plus have a little fun.  Each day I will post what all we did in each class for that day.  I will announce upcoming assignments, as well as big news that is going on in the school.  Occassionally I will post some of the students' writing assignments, with their permission of course, and sometimes the students will be the ones making the posts.  Once we return from Fall Break, we hope to have our blog ready and going.  All in all the kids and I are very excited about all of the possibilities that could come from "blogging."  Keep looking for us and keep reading "Gore's Gems!"
